You Must Suffer. by John Piper
This video is a bit long, but it something to think about. I'd be interested to hear what you think about some of Piper's claims about suffering and pain as a follower of Christ.
I have been struggling with this since May. We know nothing of suffering! I want it and yet I'm almost unsure that I can handle it. Sometimes I'm too afraid to ask for it. I just had a good conversation with Liz last night about this and how the Lord gives us His mercies new everyday. He gives us only as much as we need. It's something to keep in mind when thinking of what suffering really looks like and how God provides for even the most tiny forms of suffering. It's partly a matter of recognizing God's provision of mercy and allowing that recognition to strengthen our faith and trust in Him. That will prepare us for the bigger "sufferings" that He may put in our path. I want to talk about this more with you. Let's get together this weekend maybe.
