...and hoping we don´t run into Slobadan Milosavich. We are 28 km from our destination in Slovenia for the next few days. We have been on trains all day travelling through much of Austria. This country is absolutely gorgeous and I´ve been so glad to see the more of it. Our train weaved through a valley and along rivers for miles.
Hallstatt was so cool. Yesterday we woke up to rain and we were a bit disappointed but we headed out with no agenda. By midafternoon we were on top of a mountain overlooking Hallstattersee (the lake below) eating warm apple strudel and vanilla custard (famous to Austria) and staring a mountian range directly in the face. It was a highlight for all of us. We´ve also been laughing a lot...in case you were wondering.
A typical day would find me taking about 350 pictures, Ben leading us around a city (or mountain) faithfully and courageously holding a map, Kory vowing not to look at a sign for three weeks (actually he has stepped it up and helped out a lot), and Gerbz making Kory laugh so hard that even the stone faced train ticketmasters always seem to muster a laugh. I just act like I don´t know them.
The past seven days have been some of the best of my life. Last night we sat by the lake and just talked about life amidst the quietness only interrupted by the ducks doing their evening fishing.
Within about 48 hours we hope to be canyoning and hydrospeeding. If you´re worried about us (I know most of you are not) then now might be the time to really start praying. We hope the next few are better! We plan to be staying in some mountain chalets in Slovenia and then either camping or staying in local´s homes in Croatia. Don´t worry, I´ve checked out the validity of these things...I think...and we´ll be fine. Things are going so smoothly.
Now that we´ve had our week long warmup, it´s on to some unchartered territory...
