Home away from home

Lauterbrunnen...Kory and I are sitting here in one of our favorite places in the world at our really nice hostel in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Ben and Austin are up taking naps and we are getting ready to go enjoy some Rosti which is famous in the area (and strongly recommended by Grandpa and Grandma Lantz). We are entering our final 4 days and while it has gone so fast, it has been incredible. This is the perfect place to end and for the perfect amount of time.

We finished our time in Rome with a little action. The Bush visit to Rome did happen to spark some small riots. We happened to be in the middle of one as it started. There were some loud bangs that erupted chaos among the crowds. Ben and Austin had there restaurant table jumped over. Kory and I were casually eating gelati when hundreds rounded a corner stampeding toward us. We quickly got out of there and all is well, but needless to say it was one of the scarier moments of our lives.

It was crazy to feel very vulnerable as an American. I felt the hatred and anger in the streets and I felt it almost aimed at me. I wonder if this is the beginnings of how it would feel to really be persecuted as a follower of Christ...to be hated simply because of who I am. This was an experience I will never forget. People were running all over, stealing things, drinking abandoned beers...we wondered if the end was near. I'm sure that you will here much about this in a few days, but we are safe and in the most peaceful country in the history of the world.

This morning we arrived to Spiez, Switzerland from our night train and got on a ferry around 9.30 am to tour Thunersee and Brienzsee (two big lakes). We spent the next 5 hours enjoying the beauty of the water with mountains jutting out on all sides. It was an incredible morning. Then up the valley and to our hostel in Lauterbrunnen. Tomorrow we will head to Gimmelwald for 2 nights before trekking to Zurich for our flight out.

We can't wait to see you all!
